Swedish Massage Therapy, It’s Benefits and Prices.

Did you know that Swedish massage can be performed only by Swedish peoples? Oy, oy… just kidding… 😂 Swedish massage can be provided by any state licensed massage therapist in the US, as long as they’re Swedish. Just kidding…

Swedish Massage aka Classic Massage

Swedish massage also known as classic massage is offered pretty much everywhere where massage therapy is offered. It is the most popular massage specialty at spas and resorts. And the only massage offered at nail salons.  Pretty much everyone who provides massage therapy knows how to give Swedish massages. It is the best-known massage and when you ask people about massage therapy, Swedish massage is the one that comes to mind first.

Swedish Massage Goals

One of the primary goals of the Swedish massage is relaxation and rejuvenation of the body and the mind. But Swedish massage therapy can go beyond relaxation as long as a skillful therapist does it. Swedish massage is very beneficial for improving circulation, getting rid of surface level tension and soreness in the muscles, and it is great for increasing the oxygen level in the bloodstream.

Clinical studies found that people who get Swedish massages regularly experience a significant decrease in their cortisol levels. Cortisol is the so-called stress hormone. As well as arginine vasopressin-a hormone that can lead to increases in cortisol.

Swedish Massage Helps with Stress

Did you know that ongoing, chronic stress causes many serious health issues? Mental health problems like depression, anxiety, and personality disorders, cardiovascular disease, including heart disease, high blood pressure, abnormal heart rhythms, heart attacks, and stroke all can be caused by stress.

Stress is a factor in five out of the six leading causes of death in America — heart disease, cancer, stroke, respiratory diseases, and accidents. An estimated 75 percent to 90 percent of all doctor visits are for stress-related issues.

They also found that Swedish massage helps to increase the number of lymphocytes, white blood cells that are part of the immune system. White blood cells help to fight illnesses. Plus to all the stress management benefits Swedish massage can help to reduce and prevent lower back pain. So instead of getting worried and spending day after day in severe stress go get a massage, but first finish reading the article.

Swedish Massage Session Duration

Swedish massage is performed on full body and on the bare skin with natural oils or lotion. Swedish massage is usually offered as 30, 45, 60, 75, 90, 120 minutes long session. Different places have different policies and sometimes 60-minute sessions are only 50 minutes of hands on. So make sure to double-check that when you’re making your appointment to be clear with your expectations. I personally offer only 60 or 90-minute sessions, hands-on time. But you got to be on time for the appointment.

Prices

You can get a Swedish massage session on Groupon for $25 and up plus tips. In your local nail salon, you can probably get a 60-minute session for $45-$50 plus tax and tips. At nail salons, they usually have only one room, and they use the same table for waxing and massages. You get what you pay for. You can’t ask for a filet mignon at McDonald’s.

At a massage spa prices can range from $60 to $85 plus tax and tips. At a high-end SPA, prices could go up all the way to $200 plus tax and tips. I charge $95 for 60-minute hands-on session and my prices include the tax. Plus I tell people that I’m in business for myself, so I don’t expect tips. I rather people save the money for more frequent massage visits. I think that’s a win-win for everyone.

Swedish Massage is a Good Starting Point

Swedish massage is a good starting point for people who are just getting into massage therapy. For the info on how to choose a place where to get good massages to check the video below. But generally ask for recommendations, and Google the phrase “massage near me” or “massage plus name of your town and state”. Check your local listings and read the reviews. Try different places, ask questions, breathe deeply during the sessions and enjoy your bodywork. And if you find someone good, stick with her or him. Good massage therapists aren’t that easy to find.

So there you have it. Swedish massages are great for relaxation, rejuvenation and for stress management.

If you haven’t had one, why haven’t you?

What else is there to do?
